Are you proud to be a Catholic?

I am in Chapter 5 of Matthew Kelly’s book “The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic”, regarding Evangelization. He talks about how we can evangelize in subtle ways to win others for God. 
He asks the question, “Are you proud to be a Catholic?”…..and I can answer with a resounding YES. Although many feel that they are not good evangelizers, really many are in the way they live their lives. I have found that my pride in being Catholic is often based on the subtle events of everyday life that have verified and increased my pride. 


In what ways are you Proud to be a Catholic?


The truth of the word we are taught, the history of the church, the mass with it’s ancient traditions, and just my parish family….the closeness and love we share for each other reveals the truth of Jesus teachings.


A short little story to verify this love I feel.  My mother was not a Catholic, not even practicing faith, for that matter.  My parish priest, when he first came to our parish, offered one day to go and pray with her.  In my naïve way, I said thank you to him, and let him know that she was not Catholic.  This had no effect on him at all, he said so immediately. I let it go and a couple weeks later, he mentioned it again. So I had a talk with him to give him a heads-up, that she had severe Dementia and usually didn’t know who I was…..this also did not sway him. We set up a time to go and visit her, and when we walked into the room she looked up at me and did something I had not seen her do in …… I don’t know how long.  She looked at me and said, “Well hello Sharon….”  Ok my mother just made a liar out of me. I looked a Father, and he just chuckled.  We had a great talk that day. My mother was lucid one last time.  She passed away a month later, and I think that Father had been prompted by the Holy Spirit to give me this one last gift.

Additionally, the faith group that my mother had professed to be a part of were, nowhere to be seen on her funeral day.  My Catholic friends were there, not because they knew her….but because we love and support each other. 
If that isn’t  the Love of Christ…..if that isn’t evangelization….I don’t know what is.
I am SO proud to be a Catholic.

This Rosary is made from a plant.....how fantastic....I think I want to find this plant and see if we get along.  I don't have a green thumb but would sure like to give it a try. Does anyone know where this plant can be purchased?????  It is either called Jacob's tears or Job's tears.....I have seen both names used.

Where Is The Love

A little story about this image and verse. I have created this in honor of a little woman whom I sat with during her last few hours on this earth. Her family had abandoned her when, I felt, she needed them most. As I was sitting with her reading prayers, I asked our Lord, "Where is the Love?" The Holy Spirit spoke to my soul and said, "Pick up your Bible and I will tell you where it is."

I picked up my Bible and it opened to Luke 17, I looked down at verse 20-21, and here is what it says.
The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say 'See here' or 'See there' For indeed the kingdom of God is within you.

Amen

Thank you Holy Spirit.

Peanuts Classic

I still love Peanuts and Charlie Brown......I was watching the classic Charlie Brown Christmas with my grandsons recently and when my favorite part came I was filled with so much joy and comfort. It is where the characters are on the stage and Linus says  "I'll tell you what Christmas is about Charlie Brown.....(the lights are dimmed to just a spot light on Linus) "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people....For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."

I love Linus' little voice....he is so confident and sure....he is ssssooo correct.  There isn't a more comforting, hopeful, joyful feeling than when I hear those words.

Yaquina Lighthouse in fog during the early morning hours, gives way by noonish to beautiful sunlit days on the Oregon Coast, near Newport Oregon. 

One of the most beautiful lighthouses in America, the Yaquina Head Light is a magnet for photographers and tourists, who can see it from U.S. 101, the Pacific Coast Highway. The magnificent rock outcropping on which the light station stands is a magnet of a more literal variety. At its core is a rich vein of magnetized iron that raises cain with the compasses of ships passing nearby. Most vessels sailing up and down the Oregon coast give this light a wide berth. Not just because their compasses dance, but because numerous ships have come to grief along this stretch of coast, many within sight of the lighthouse.
Yaquina Light was completed in 1873, and at the top of it's 93 foot high tower is an extraordinary twelve-foot-high first-order Fresnel lens that cast a light-beam that can be seen miles out to sea. The Fresnel lens is situated at a height of 162 feet above sea level, and flashes intervals of red then white light. To extend the reach of its warning, the station broadcasts a radio beacon.

As I was driving through the country areas near Orofino Idaho.....really wanting to find a field of a wild flower that blooms in the spring....the name of the flower escapes me at this moment........anyway, I walked up to this fence to get a closer view and these two horses and some others came from across the field to greet me. These two stood out....who says they don't have emotions.....

Lord make me and instrument of your peace.....is a phrase that resonates in me the work of Christ we all need to do in a troubled world.
As I traveled down the Oregon coast in the early morning hours before the fog burns off, I see many peaceful quiet scenes that gives me time to sit and comtemplate how I can be the light of Christ today
